That's exactly what over 1 million people claimed they were planning to find out according to the Facebook group, "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us."
“We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry,” the invitation reads. “… We can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.” Area 51 is a top-secret part of United States Edwards Air Force base in Nevada. Conspiracy theorists have long-suspected that the facility holds government secrets about aliens and UFOs. The proposed event is scheduled for September 20 but even the organizer admits it was "a joke" that got out of hand and made it clear that he/she is "not responsible if people decide to actually storm area 51.”
There's been plenty of funny memes posted as this story continues to grow. And while no one expects people to show up, the U.S. Air Force did issue a warning just in case, saying "The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets." Didn't Will Smith settle this issue years ago in the movie Independence Day?
